The New York Yankees Performance Science department is accepting applications for Biomechanics Analyst. Reporting to the department’s Senior Analyst and working closely with the Senior Biomechanist, this individual will be tasked with executing the data analysis portion of ongoing research endeavors aimed at translating biomechanical data to actionable insights.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold an advanced degree in a branch of the natural and applied sciences (e.g., physics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, etc.) and demonstrate excellent analytical acumen.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Analyze and model the relation between biomechanical (spatial time series) data and on-field outcomes
Conduct research projects and athlete servicing tasks using biomechanical data sources
Conceive metrics to optimally translate biomechanical information
Prepare and disseminate research reports to both technical and lay stakeholders in Baseball Operations
Interface with developers, analysts and coaches to optimize databasing, analysis and delivery of data
Ensure continued application of best practices in data treatment and data analytics
Conduct ad hoc analyses on other physiological datasets
Technical Expectations
Strong proficiency in Python, R or Matlab required
Experience using SQL preferred
Demonstrated excellence in advanced data analysis
Understanding of fundamental concepts in statistics and probability
Acute familiarity with the dynamics of three-dimensional motion
Familiarity with signal processing theory will be beneficial
Competence developing data visualizations to maximize the impact of analytical insights
Ability to review and critically evaluate scientific literature
Ability to perform data analyses that that would withstand peer-review in top tier journals
Administrative
Meticulous record keeping skills
Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, communicational and technical writing skills
Must show initiative and willingness to make decisions independently
Ability to manage and complete multiple projects simultaneously
Must be adaptable to the volatile schedule of professional sport
Prepared to accommodate 7-day (February–March) and 6-day working weeks (April–October)
General
Innovative mindset and ability to think critically
Ability to handle confidential/sensitive information and exercise sound professional judgment
Ability to withstand high-pressure environment and strenuous professional baseball schedule
Proficiency in Spanish is beneficial but not mandatory
This position will be based in Tampa, FL and the successful applicant will not be permitted to publish baseball-related research.
