The New York Yankees Performance Science department is accepting applications for a Biomechanics Lab Manager. Reporting to the Senior Biomechanist, this individual will serve as a research technician and managing operations in the biomechanics laboratory. This position is based in Tampa, FL.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a master’s degree or higher in biomechanics or engineering (biomedical or mechanical) and possess extensive experience collecting and processing optical motion capture data.
Primary Job Responsibilities
– Manage day-to-day operations in the Biomechanics Laboratory
– Manage data collection
– Maintain laboratory equipment
– Schedule data collection sessions (in conjunction with field staff)
– Calibrate technologies and collect data
– Troubleshoot technological issues
– Catalog data
– Conduct and manage all stages of data processing
– Maintain a meticulous and up-to-date catalog of data processing statuses
– Supervise lab assistants
– Assist in the preparation and delivery of biomechanical reports
– Remain abreast of technological advancements in biomechanical measurement
– Conduct reviews to summarize scientific literature
– Assist with other Performance Science initiatives on an ad hoc basis
Technical Expectations
– Acute familiarity operating motion capture hardware and software
– Adeptness calibrating, configuring and operating standard biomechanics lab hardware
– Demonstrated expertise in motion capture data processing
– Proficiency in either Matlab or Python is highly desirable
– Ability to review and critically evaluate scientific literature
Administrative
– Meticulous record keeping skills
– Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, communicational and technical writing skills
– Must show initiative and willingness to make decisions independently
– Must be adaptable to the volatile schedule of professional sport
– Prepared to accommodate 7-day (February–March) and 6-day working weeks (April–October)
General
– Innovative mindset and ability to think critically
– Ability to handle confidential/sensitive information and exercise sound professional judgment
– Ability to withstand high-pressure environment and strenuous professional baseball schedule
– Proficiency in Spanish is beneficial but not mandatory
